For Patrick Foo, professor of Psychology and Neuroscience, teaching complex material isn’t about simplifying it—it’s about empowering students to know they are capable of difficult things.Foo is the 2026 recipient of the Board of Governors Excellence in Teaching Award for UNC Asheville, a prestigious honor given annually to one faculty member at each institution in the UNC System.
